I Have Been Remiss In My Duties

Hello loyal fans. Allow me to apologize once again for the lack of regular posts. I have been busy. No excuses. Just busy. My goal is to post at least a couple of times a week from this point on.  I hope you enjoy the preceding post on fascism and democracy.

Quote of the Day:

“Duty is the sublimest word in our language. Do your duty in all things. You cannot do more. You should never wish to do less. ” – Robert E. Lee

“Do not confuse “duty” with what other people expect of you; they are utterly different. Duty is a debt you owe to yourself to fulfill obligations you have assumed voluntarily. Paying that debt can entail anything from years of patient work to instant willingness to die. Difficult it may be, but the reward is self-respect.” Robert A. Heinlein

Hello loyal fans. My little space on the web just hit 2,000 views today. While that may not seem like much, it is pretty exciting for me. When it comes right down to it, this entire blog began as a joke; now, it seems, quite a few people are actually reading the insanity. I am not sure what it is that makes this worth reading regularly to anybody, but it seems that some people seem to feel it is worth their time. Whatever the case, I seem to be spreading across the internet like whities across the Great Plains. Hopefuly my success here is greater than my success in the world of Oregon Trail.
Huzzah for 2,000 views…

My Most Humble Apologies

Hello loyal fans.  I must apologize for the recent dearth of posting.  Life has simply gotten in the way of Batch Is The New Shit.  School preparations have been taking my mornings and my afternoons and evenings have been taken up with the aquarium stand process.  It is now done and I am prepped for the first couple of weeks of school so I should be back with a vengeance in a few days.  Look for updated posts on th aquarium, UCLA football (Stanford goes down Sept. 1st), the Chargers, and whatever else might come to mind…

My Computer Vacation Was Nice

Hello loyal fans. I must extol the virtues of an occasional computer vacation. While the five day respite certainly hurt the frequency of blog posts (okay, halted posts entirely), it was nice to simply turn off the web based aspects of my world for a while. Sure, MyFishTank.net had to get by for a few days without my moderation services (as if the five others couldn’t handle it…) and the readers of my blog were left sad and lonely but, amazingly enough, the world did not come to an end.

It was really refreshing to check out from all of the internet responsibilities I have developed over time. It is an interesting phenomenon how quickly one becomes rooted in those web based commitments. Simply failing to answer an e-mail for a couple of days led to concerned calls from relatives wondering if I had, perhaps, perished. I would really encourage you all to take a few days off from the technological devices we have come to “rely” on. You will find a great deal of freedom in being disconnected; it is kind of like camping without the mosquitoes! It is amazing how much time I freed up during my busy day by simply not wasting it online. Why, I was able to sort, organize, and put in pages some 3,500 or more baseball cards! If that isn’t productivity, I don’t know what is (but more about that on another day).

I am now ready to attack my blog with the general vigor with which it was begun. I can not guarantee daily explications and tirades (though I am not terribly busy), but my readers can certainly expect something new every couple of days. Until we meet again, I will leave you with this:

Quote of the Day:

“We’ve all heard that a million monkeys banging on a million typewriters will eventually reproduce the entire works of Shakespeare. Now, thanks to the Internet, we know this is not true.” – Robert Wilensky

The New Theme

Hello loyal fans. While I was immediately impressed with the overall appearance of the first theme I was using, I found it was limiting in terms of two things:

1) The font sizes were very large and links were not well highlighted

2) The page usage was not efficient

As a result I have decided to make a change. While this is, perhaps, less formal in its design, I do believe it will be acceptable. After all, how formal am I really? That is really it for today…just a brief update. I will also try to upload an avatar tonight and play around with some of the other features I have yet to explore.

Tune in tomorrow for my discussion of the teaching of the Bible in public schools.

The Direction Of This Blog

Hello loyal fans. I think it is time I take a cue from the immortal Kurt Vonnegut, Jr. This blog has, essentially, become a place for my daily diatribes about social problems. While there is certainly a time and place for these things, I do believe I must realign to my original purpose: entertaining the masses in a light, more accessible, and perhaps less sardonic, manner. For those who enjoy the daily lambasting of society, fret not, such posts will not cease altogether, their frequency will simply diminish.

Quote of the Day:

1. Find a subject you care about.
2. Do not ramble, though.
3. Keep it simple.
4. Have the guts to cut.
5. Sound like yourself.
6. Say what you mean to say.
7. Pity the readers.

– Kurt Vonnegut Jr. as quoted in Science Fictionisms (1995), compiled by William Rotsler

Welcome to “Batch Is The New Shit”

Hello loyal fans. I have often mocked the ludicrisity of blogging. That is right…”ludicrisity”…and I know it is not a word. Nevertheless, recent events have stirred me to begin my own inane web based ramblings. I can pinpoint the instance in which I decided a blog was the thing for me. I was riding in a car discussing with associates the merits of skinny pants; you know, the ones women wear that taper down to the ankle. I was assured that such pants were highly unfashionable and I was informed that the source of said knowledge was none other than the omnipotent, and infallable, internet. Given my general belief that my opinions are better than everyone elses, I decided that fate had at last thrust me into a situation in which circumstances made my entry into the world of web ranting unavoidable. So, internet world, get ready for the insanity!
